The first snow has arrived in Méribel this week and it’s fair to say that all of us here at Meriski HQ are just a little bit excited!
With less than five weeks to go until the lifts open, we are busy putting the final touches on our plans for the season ahead. Première Neige is a magical time for a ski resort, as it comes alive once again with an air of expectation and excitement of the season ahead.
In the weeks leading up to the lifts opening, the resort is a hive of activity with staff arriving, chalets being cleaned in preparation for their first guests and shops and restaurants are buzzing with the meetings of old and new friends.
Once the lifts open, the first week or two are often a fabulous time on the slopes for anyone lucky enough to experience them. The pistes should be prepped and groomed to perfection and with the crowds yet to arrive you will often find you have them to yourself.
We are now fully booked for New Year but still have a few rooms left for Christmas and some limited availability for the week of 16th December, the first week of the school holidays. What better way to enjoy the lead up to Christmas than a week in a festive winter wonderland!
The finishing touches are now being put on our brand new chalet, Chalet L’Arpege. We have just had a little sneak peek and it really is looking superb! We will have photos at the end of this month, so do keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for updates.
So, what can you look forward to in the resort this season?
As ever, the team in Méribel have been working hard over the summer on continued improvements to the ski area (over the next two years, Méribel will be investing more than 15 million Euros on its ski area.). This season sees the addition of two new high-speed 6-seat chairlifts in the Roc de Fer area of the resort.
The Legends is a new premium six-seater high-speed chairlift, which will replace the 'Plan de L'Homme' chairlift. It starts from La Chaudanne and can carry 3,600 people per hour with a journey time of just 4 minutes 40 seconds, all done in comfort with heated seats and a weathershield!
The difficult Cherferie draglift is also being replaced by a six-seater high-speed chairlift, carrying 2,824 people per hour with a journey time of 4 minutes. The new chairlift’s arrival station is positioned slightly higher than the old draglift, giving direct access to the popular Jerusalem piste and the village of Saint-Martin.
The Mont Vallon gondola has also been upgraded with new 8 seater cabins offering a comfortable ride up to this iconic summit as well as panoramic views over the ski area.
The reservoir in Mottaret used for making artificial snow has been extended, which means the already impressive snowmaking capabilities of the Three Valleys has now doubled.
Méribel’s toboggan, Mission Black Forest, will now open 7 days per week, giving sledders even more chances to race down its thrilling 3.4km, 470m vertical drop and 28 bends! The adventure starts at the Tougnète lift, with a price of 9€ per person for four people or four descents, or 12€ for a single descent. The price includes the ascent by lift, sled and helmet rental.
Elsewhere you will find plenty of fun in the Elements Terrain Park where this year, the focus will be on different themes to offer skiers courses they’ll want to enjoy again and again. The four different worlds - fire, water, earth and wind – can be discovered in turn, so you can try all the different types of obstacles. With a Boardercross, Whoops, Mini-zone and Fun Slope, there is something for everyone.
We hope this has given you plenty to look forward to for the season ahead. If you have not yet booked your ski holiday for this year, you can view our current availability here and full details of all our current offers can be found on our Special Offers and Shared Chalets pages.
